Iganga Municipal Council has issued a public notice directing all street vendors and those operating in bus and taxi parks to cease selling on streets and public spaces with immediate effect.

The notice, signed by Town Clerk Turyasasirwa Edith, warned vendors to relocate to designated market areas or risk having their goods confiscated.

The enforcement is set to begin on Monday, 30th March 2026, with authorities emphasizing that no further warnings will be issued for non-compliance.

Municipal officials cited ongoing town-wide operations as the reason for the crackdown, aimed at organizing trade, enhancing sanitation, and improving safety in public spaces.

Vendors in Iganga’s bustling bus and taxi parks expressed concern over potential loss of livelihoods, while authorities encouraged compliance to ensure orderly markets.

The notice also urged vendors to contact municipal authorities for guidance on relocation to designated areas.

This move is part of broader efforts by local governments across Uganda to regulate informal trade, balancing economic needs with urban management goals. Vendors are advised to prepare for the transition to avoid confiscation of their goods.
